I've been doing alot of reading lately...Expanding the mind...One read I would definitely recommend to anybody with any money at all would be, 'The Treasure Principle' by Randy Alcorn. It's amazing! Already has so challenged me on how I spend my money, why I spend my money, and where I'm truly investing it. Am I satisfied with only investing my money in the affairs of the earth, or am I actively sending my treasures ahead to be invested in a future, eternal economy?
In the book he quotes C. S. Lewis in a paragraph that ends with, "We are far too easily pleased." It struck me that far too often I settle for less than the very best. In my goals, ambitions, disciplines, habits (reading habits, spending habits, eating habits) and relationships am I always striving for the best? It takes intentional effort. In a fallen, deprived society good things don't generally happen effortlessly.
I have found that in my much more pleasure seeking days of youth, when my desire to please my Heavenly Father often fell below my desire to have a good life, unitentional living led to more headache than actual enjoyment. Intentional living on the other hand leads to a much fuller life with true lasting enjoyment.
Disciplines I would have earlier laughed at now prove to be the very things that keep me going. For example, going to bed early and getting out of bed early, to exercise and have time with God, keep me alert and cheerful throughout the day. Making healthy eating choices satisfy my cravings and give me more energy. The struggle to stick to these choices may be rough, but the joy and satisfaction far supercede the pain.
In other news, my dad and brothers are home! We are enjoying their presence again around the house, church, and city. Sometimes I forget they were ever gone, but on every occassion that I remember, I breathe a thanks to Jesus for bringing them home safely.
I'm continuing to teach Home Ec at school, which keeps me moving to come up with helpful, hands on activities for the two young men and two ladies in the class.
Coaching a Bible Quiz team is a new exciting experience for me. I'm amazed by how well the children learn the passage, and by their creativity during practices. We are eagerly looking forward to our first quiz meet on January 17.

attention. We got into some very fascinating discussions. Definately gave
more vision to Black Friday.
